Weld Training

At the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 Training Center, our Weld Training Program is dedicated to producing top-tier professionals with the skills and certifications demanded by today's piping industries.

What We Offer

CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES

We offer UA certifications in various welding disciplines, enhancing employability and value to our signatory contractors. Regular weld tests for certification are conducted at the Terre Haute Weld Shop. 

FABRICATION TRAINING

Beyond welding, our program includes comprehensive training in layout, design, construction, and installation of piping systems. Apprentices develop the ability to produce detailed drawings and fabricate piping to precise specifications, ensuring readiness for real-world applications.

FLEXIBLE LEARNING

Recognizing the diverse interests of our members, the weld shop is available for practice during normal business hours. Additionally, supplemental certification courses are offered throughout the year based on demand, allowing members to expand their expertise and stay current with industry advancements.

LOCAL FACILITIES

Terre Haute Weld Shop

Our Terre Haute Weld Shop provides apprentices and journeymen with access to modern equipment and facilities. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, members can refine their skills during regular operating hours.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST

Location: 8707 East Milner Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47803

ACCELERATED WELDING PROGRAM

The Accelerated Welding Program is provided to students at no cost. This is an 18-week, full-time, unpaid program during which students will learn and practice welding with the goal of obtaining UA Weld Certifications. Upon completion of the Accelerating Welding Program, students will then be direct entered into the Apprenticeship Program classes and be eligible to start working in the trade for signatory contractors.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have high school welding, college, or trade school welding experience.

  • Applicants will be contacted to complete a weld evaluation, interview, drug screen and background check.

LOCAL INSTRUCTION

Local 157 Instructors

Our instructors are experienced journeyman plumbers and pipefitters. They have real world experience in the field, which they can pass on to apprentices. They follow UA curriculum in trade related fields of study. he UA also provides instructor training to ensure our instructors stay current with best practices, so apprentices benefit from the highest quality instruction.

Our affiliation with Ivy Tech Community College provides instructors who ensure apprentices meet the requirements to earn an Associate’s Degree. Part of the classroom time is spent on these requirements, while most classroom time is dedicated to trade related material.
